Spider veins treatments and information
Spider
Veins are a cousin of varicose veins (vericose veins). They are
generally much closer to the skin's surface and are smaller than
varicose veins. Spider veins are a result of swelling that occurs
when part of a vein weakens causing blood to pool. They are most
often seen on the legs or faces of women, and are blue or red in
color.
Spider veins
are usually only a cosmetic concern. They may cause mild discomfort,
but are not considered serious and treatment is always optional...unless
you're planning a trip to the beach.
Causes
of spider veins:
Prolonged periods of standing or sitting with legs crossed at the
knee are the most common causes of spider veins in the legs. It
is recommended to change positions regularly to keep blood circulating
and sit with legs crossed at the ankles rather than the knee
Problems with the tiny valves inside veins that regulate blood flow,
or a smaller than normal number of these valves
Hormonal deviations (such as those during pregnancy or menopause)
and excessive exposure to the sun can also contribute to the formation
of spider veins
